“Wonky” is the new single from Orbital’s album of the same name. Featuring 23-year-old Birmingham based vocalist, Lady Leshurr, “Wonky” is one of the key tracks in the legendary duo’s current setlist.
“We’ve never named an album after a track before but I just think it’s a fantastic word,” says Phil Hartnoll. “The song came out of nowhere. We were so surprised by the reaction to this, it just went down really well,” he continues. “Right at the last minute we got Lady Leshurr to do her vocal, in one of our ‘correction sessions’ for the album, after we had been DJing it. It turned out brilliantly. She is very talented. She is modern and old school and all those things, she mixes it all up. She’s got a dancehall reggae kind of vibe, as well as a rapping vibe, and she can sing like a soul singer as well.”
Recently reunited following a long sabbatical, Paul and Phil Hartnoll are back on fighting-fit form and ready to reclaim their title as lightheaded lords of the dance arena. Both timeless and contemporary, heartwarming and exhilarating, Wonky puts a vividly modern spin on their signature blend of richly melodic, deeply emotive electronica.
