HUSKY
‘SHARK FIN’

The captivating sounds of Husky’s third studio record, Punchbuzz evolved though a newfound philosophy; if something sounds good, follow it. Take it all the way. “That really freed us up” said Husky Gawenda, “In the past we would have held back and played it safe instead of taking the leap, the risk”. The Melbourne duo’s latest single ‘Shark Fin is a shining example of this limitless mindset.

The exciting propulsion of ‘Shark Fin’ flows naturally. Its experimentalism and attention to detail allows us to discover new depths with every listen. Recorded with producer Matt Redlich (Holy Holy, Ball Park Music), the track’s construction revolves around a punchy drum loop that lush synths and catchy phased guitar riffs playfully dance around. Gawenda’s layered vocal and surreal visual lyrics complement the instrumentation perfectly.

A shark fin cuts through the water
Like a stranger, somehow familiar
First my love, this is goodbye
Wake me after it’s over

Husky recently recorded three Punchbuzz favourites live from the Elsternwick Mansion. Premiered by Tone Deaf, their performance of ‘Shark Fin’ exceptionally showcases the band’s swap from their signature folk sound to streamlined indie rock. The 10 tracks of Punchbuzz possess a widescreen atmosphere, dark lyrics and newly muscled melodies. It exceeds the dynamic imperative of its title.

Punchbuzz has struck a loving chord with critics and fans alike, who are applauding its compelling songwriting and psychedelic alt-pop vibe. Lead single ‘Late Night Store reached high rotation on triple j and has now amassed over 3 million Spotify streams, featuring on massive playlists locally and internationally. Follow up single ‘Ghost was introduced by CLASH Magazine in the UK – whilst LA’s KCRW premiered the admired video.  Punchbuzz debuted at #32 on the ARIA Album Chart and follows on from 2011’s breakthrough debut Forever So (released internationally via SubPop) and 2014’s stellar sophomore Ruckers Hill.

Shark Fin is a wonderfully moody shift into atmospheric indie rock that serves as the perfect next step for the accomplished duo – Tone Deaf
