TAKEN FROM THE SELF TITLED SNAKADAKTAL EP – OUT 25 NOVEMBER, 2011
To say that 2011 has been a big year for the five teenagers in Snakadaktal would be a giant understatement. Having been thrust into the limelight through their Unearthed High victory courtesy of their stunning single ‘Chimera’ and accompanying film clip that has now clocked up over 90,000 views on the Internet, the band has been met with a whirlwind of media coverage, show requests and new fans. After re-recording their utterly beautiful follow up single ‘Air’ (a track that showcases both Sean and Phoebe’s remarkable emotive and provoking vocals) with Triple J and delivering yet another impressive film clip, the band once again surpassed the Australian public’s expectations and claimed the 3rd most played song on Triple J for a week and were playlisted on Channel [V]…. an impressive accomplishment considering they’re still tackling their VCE.
With the wheels well and truly in motion, Snakadaktal announced a run of headline dates for December which will see them travel through Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland to support their upcoming EP release (out November 25). These dates highly anticipated shows have sold extremely quickly (Melbourne show selling out in a mere 2 weeks) given the band’s young age and will no doubt see the five-piece continue to astonish music listeners with musical abilities that stretch far beyond the borders of the Melbourne Rudolf Steiner High School.
Now getting ready to shed their school uniforms, Snakadaktal are proud to present their next single…a track simply titled ‘Boy’. A relaxed pop gem that once again boasts the vocal talents of both Phoebe and Sean, it dreamily coasts through your heaphones and whisks you away to a day dreamy world.
Boy was a melody and base organ piece written by Barna and Sean in the early hours of a morning as a friend bored them with studies. It was almost completely transformed when brought to the group to create a pop tune with a change of spirit. This was always going to be the EP’s last track, as the outro of the song provokes feelings of the draining of energy and time. This is one of our faves, but perhaps the trickiest and most rewarding to achieve live.
The lyrics were written by Phoebe and Sean. We had just had a swim, and both with different stories, brought together feelings through words that intertwined peacefully. It involves tales of love, anxiety, animals and fools.
