Dan Sultan and A.B Original’s rework, ‘My Kingdom’, is the final collaboration to be revealed from Sultan’s new EP, Killer Under A Blood Moon, out now through Liberation Records. The powerful rework of the Killer album single sees Briggs and Trials penning new verses for the track, sharing personal stories from their upbringing to add to the original’s already poignant sentiment.

“The first time I heard ‘Kingdom’ the piano immediately jumped out at me. For our version those chords are the only thing that remains from the original besides Dan’s vocals as I felt that was the body of such a soulful song. Lyrically B and I wanted to paint a picture of our versions of the Kingdoms we grew up in and show the underlying differences and similarities that make us all family.” – Trials, A.B Original

Dan Sultan has previously featured on A.B Original’s smash, ‘January 26’, which reached #16 on triple j’s Hottest 100 and lead Sultan to tour with the group, performing the song together on stages around the country.

“I’ve been along for the ride a couple of times with those guys, so I thought it would be good to have them along for the ride with me,” Sultan says. “I gave the track to Trials and just said to him, “Bro, just go for it; whatever you come up with is going to be sick”. And what they did with it is beautiful. It’s a pretty sad song, but it’s beautiful.”

Killer Under A Blood Moon was recorded live at Red Moon Studios, in the sweeping hills of the Macedon Ranges. The EP features selected tracks from Dan Sultan’s fourth LP, Killer, reinterpreted by the brightest names and most important names in Australian music right now – Camp Cope, Dave Le’aupepe (Gang of Youths), Meg Mac and A.B. Original. It is a testament to the respect Sultan garners in his peers and also speaks to a growing camaraderie amongst those musicians unafraid to forge new cultural ground and to challenge the status quo, onstage and off. Already, the EP has captured the attention of fans and peers and has seen Dan’s music back on the airwaves and popping up on streaming playlists including Spotify’s New Music Friday and Apple Music’s Best of the Week.

Dan Sultan described the concept behind this project as a way to give his songs new bodies, new ways of being, and to have a good time doing it. “We were really just hanging out and having a bit of fun together,” Sultan says of handing his songs over to his friends, who also happen to be some of his favourite musicians. “I’m really proud of Killer and of the writing on the album, and this is another way to show these songs from a different perspective.”

Dan Sultan is currently amidst his 3 month Killer Solo Tour, which sees him stripping things back to basics – just Dan, his piano and guitar. He’ll play 44 intimate theatre shows in total, spanning all over the country from Hobart to Darwin, Carnarvon, Redland, and everywhere in between.

Just months after it debuted in the top five of the ARIA Albums Chart, Killer was nominated for Best Rock Album and Best Independent Release at the 2017 ARIA Awards. Sultan was nominated for Best Male Artist, not for the first time. Killer is currently up for Best Blues and Roots Album at the 2018 AIR Awards.
