(Jimmy Barnes Best Of The Soul Years, Out now through Liberation)

‘Mustang Sally’ is the second new track that Jimmy cut especially for the Best Of The Soul Years album during his recent trip to Nashville to record the fourth album of the soul series ‘Soul Searchin’;  scheduled for release 2016.

Jimmy talks about ‘Mustang Sally’ and how he’s waited 25 years to record one of his favourite songs of all time.

“Back in September 1990, I released ‘Two Fires’ – my fourth solo and my fourth #1 album – so at this time, I was constantly out  touring and promoting this album .  It was during our 1990 Christmas holiday  break from the ‘Two Fires’ tour that all the songs that would go on to become ‘Soul Deep’ were actually recorded – initially for fun but they sounded so good, we all agreed it would be my next album release.

As a result, my record label Mushroom Records thought it best to delay the release of the ‘Soul Deep’ album for 12 months while ‘Two Fires’ was still going so strongly.  In the meantime, whilst in the process of me still touring ‘Two Fires’ and the actual release of  ‘Soul Deep’, there was a film and soundtrack released for ‘The Commitments’ featuring a bunch of young Irish singers.  One of the big songs from this soundtrack was a version of ‘Mustang Sally’.  So we decided against including  the song on ‘Soul Deep’.

So I’ve waited another 25 years to record and release ‘Mustang Sally’, because it is one of my favourite songs of all time, once again, it’s a Wilson Pickett song and once again it defines what soul music is really about; it swings, it rolls, it’s got really great inner groove; it’s such a great song to sing and I’ve waited 25 years to put it on this record.”

A quarter of a century in the making, and compiled from his three mega-platinum-selling albums of soul and R&B classics (1991’s Soul Deep, 2000’s Soul Deeper and 2009’s The Rhythm and the Blues)Best of the Soul Years contains all the highlights from Jimmy’s ongoing artistic pilgrimage into the music and songs that inspired him to become a singer in the first place.

Each and every song here is a certified classic hit in its own right, and all have been given the inimitable and unmistakable Jimmy Barnes treatment.

With so many of these songs, Jimmy has made them so much his own, it’s easy to forget they weren’t his in the first place.

A few have become cornerstones in his eclectic career, such as ‘(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher’, ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’, ‘Signed Sealed Delivered (I’m Yours)’ and his chart-topping duet with John Farnham, ‘When Something Is Wrong With My Baby’.
