Mansionair Violet City

(out 6 April 2018 through Liberation Records

Sydney-based, Grammy-nominated trio Mansionair return with new single ‘Violet City’.

Driven by a propulsive electronic bass, buoyant drums, eastern-style strings and lead singer Jack Froggatt’s note perfect falsetto, ‘Violet City’ is a powerful, poignant song steeped in the aloofness and pace of the city of LA.

‘Violet City’ explores the feeling of complete exhaustion from trying to control everything. It’s about finding yourself stranded in a place you don’t want to be, trying to reach a goal that seems out of reach.

Written in LA late 2016, all fed up with the bright lights and pace of the city, this song began to represent a carelessness needed to let go in order to find a flow and see things from a new perspective.

‘Violet City’ sees Mansionair continue to blur the lines between electronic stylings and traditional pop structure as they expand on the cinematic sound refined through previous releases ‘Easier’, ‘Speak Easy’ and most recently, ‘Astronaut (Something About Your Love)’. The latter has now amassed over 10 million plays across streaming services and has seen the band’s star shine brighter than ever, particularly in the US market, where it climbed to the upper reaches of Billboard’s Alternative Chart, with a peak of #30.

Mansionair was born when multi-instrumentalist and producer Lachlan Bostock joined with folk singer Jack Froggatt and jazz drummer Alex Nicholls to collaborate on ‘Hold Me Down’. The chemistry between the trio was instantaneous and ‘Hold Me Down’ quickly amassed one million views online within two months of release.  From those early days to more recent endeavours, including a Grammy-nominated collaboration with Odesza on ‘Line of Sight’, tours with London Grammar, CHVRCHES, Florence + The Machine, and being tipped as an Amazon Artist to Watch for 2018, the band has toiled diligently to foster a loyal fan base on both sides of the globe as they work toward an album release later this year.

Now, ‘Violet City’ lands just as Mansionair touch down in America on the eve of their Alt Nation 18-date Advanced Placement Tour with Mikky Ekko and NoMBe, and at the beginning of their six-month relocation to the northern hemisphere. They have also been announced on The Great Escape in the UK and Hangout Festival in the US, with more dates to follow.
