Freedom Ride single cover
With a career spanning eight albums and over half a million album sales, it is with great pride that Liberation and the Mushroom Group today announce the highest chart debut ever for Troy Cassar-Daley, with ninth album Freedom Ride (released on Friday 13 March) debuting at (insert number) on the ARIA Album Chart.

‘I know I am biased and Troy is a mate but I need to say that Freedom Ride is his “career” album. Its credible, sincere, insightful, well produced and delivers its message in a subtle but entertaining way’ – John Nutting

‘Evenly balanced between uplifting celebration of an Australian spirit (Take A Walk In My Country) and the darker human condition (Freedom Ride, Since You Left This Town), it’s a complete record.’ – Daily Telegraph

‘The sound is uniformly big and shiny, full of bold, punchy guitars and drums and not a note out of place.” – The Age ★★★★

Having spent the best part of 25 years making and spreading his beautiful music around the country and the world, receiving countless accolades along the way including several ARIA and APRA Awards and a total of 27 Golden Guitars to date, Troy couldn’t be more proud of his ninth album:

“Can I say a huge thanks for the support of my new album Freedom Ride. I’m proud of every song on it and it’s been a real honour sharing everyday Australian people’s stories through song. Thanks for looking out of the window of the Freedom Ride bus with me.” – Troy Cassar-Daley

The chart news follows the final concert on the re-enactment of the Freedom Ride tour which saw Troy and Paul Kelly join original Riders and university students on a bus tour to Dubbo, Walgett, Moree, Kempsey and finally Sydney University for the 50th anniversary of Freedom Ride.*

Today (23 March) also marks the release of the second single and title track from the album Freedom Ride (watch the live studio video for ‘Freedom Ride here), following on from the first single ‘Take A Walk In My Country’ (watch video here).

Tonight Troy will sit on the panel for esteemed news and current affairs program Q&A where he will play ‘Freedom Ride’ live to a national studio and television audience.

Troy has shared a wonderful piece of work with the world with his acclaimed ninth studio album and invites us all to join him on the Freedom Ride when he takes to the road for a tour that will see him out until the end of the year.

*In February 1965 the Freedom Ride saw 29 University of Sydney students visit regional NSW towns in an attempt to bring to the nation’s attention discrimination against Aboriginal people, to shine a light on poor Aboriginal health, housing and education, and to try to stimulate local action.
