Liberation Records are today pleased to unveil Dan Sultan’s latest soulful offering, Aviary Takes, a record brimming with acoustic and piano reworks of some of the musician’s most celebrated tracks and a handful of stunning covers for good measure.

Crafted following a year of self-assessment and recalibration, Aviary Takes features some of Sultan’s most celebrated tracks including classic ‘Old Fitzroy’ and more recent hits like ‘Kingdom’ and ‘Hold It Together’, coupled with three bonus covers, including Michael Kiwanuka’s ‘Love & Hate’, the video for which has also arrived today, Florence + The Machine’s ‘Dog Days Are Over’ and Gillian Welch’s ‘Look At Miss Ohio’.

Aviary Takes has been a very rewarding and fulfilling experience. I’ve been able to go over songs from my past catalogue and also record a few tunes from some of my favourite artists. It’s very stripped back and it’s the first time I’ve worked with the great and very talented Matt Redlich, who produced the sessions. We had a great time making the album in the heart of Melbourne, at his Aviary Studios.” – Dan Sultan

The anticipated release comes amidst a string of metro and regional shows, which welcome the Melbourne singer-songwriter, armed with his unmistakable voice, acoustic guitar, keys, a fresh batch of anecdotes and new renditions of some coveted favourites. Continuing this weekend in Bendigo, Sultan is set to captivate fans as the Aviary Takes Tour covers 20 dates throughout Australia, winding up in Port Macquarie on Saturday 11 May.

One of Australia’s most loved singer-songwriters, Aviary Takes follows Killer (2017), Blackbird (2014), Get Out While You Can (2009) and Homemade Biscuits (2006). Sultan has navigated the country a number of times playing headline shows to sold-out crowds, as well as supporting the links of Bruce Springsteen, and as a guest on some of Australia’s biggest festivals, including Splendour in the Grass, Blues Festival and Falls Festival, to name a few. Sultan boasts numerous accolades to his name, including ARIA Awards, NIMA Awards, Top 5 ARIA-charting albums and a gold record in Blackbird.

Aviary Takes is an intimate and stripped-back celebration of a newly invigorated Sultan. Showcasing his self-awareness as a songwriter, his latest album gifts listeners a collection of songs that allow for Sultan’s captivating vocals and musicianship to shine.
