It is with great excitement that the Mushroom Group announce a revamp of Liberation Music and the launch of a brand-new Mushroom entity, Bloodlines.

After more than 15 years as the flagship record label of the Mushroom Group, Liberation Music is set to be re-branded to Liberation Records.  Since its inception in 2000, Liberation has established one of the most exciting rosters of domestic artists in Australia, with a strong focus on the development of new talent. The label’s continued growth and the notable expansion of its domestic artist development in recent years has prompted a refocus for the brand.

The label’s new direction will be overseen by Damian ‘Damo’ Slevison, who will move into the role of Managing Director of Liberation Records.  Damo joined Liberation in 2004 in a label management role before moving into A&R and has since signed and been instrumental in the successes of Liberation artists such as The Temper Trap, Vance Joy, Dan Sultan, British India, Husky, Emma Louise, D.D Dumbo, Gordi and alumni such as Little Red and Snakadaktal.

Matt Gudinski, Executive Director of the Mushroom Group said of the re-brand; “When my father and Warren Costello started Liberation Music in 2000 it was the only recorded music label within the Group.  As a result it, by circumstance, became ‘home’ to a wide variety of artists.

“In the past decade, under the A&R direction of Damian Slevison, Liberation has forged a path domestically and internationally as a real force in the development of Australian music.  The time feels right to cement the musical philosophy and development focus that Damo has brought to Liberation.”

Boasting multiple chart-topping artists, the label enters this changeover period hot on the heels of a top five ARIA debut for Dan Sultan’s critically-acclaimed album Killer, Vance Joy’s new single ‘Lay It On Me’ being certified Gold, and a triple j Feature Album and Top 20 debut for Gordi’s stunning debut album Reservoir. Historically the label has boasted numerous number one and platinum and gold selling albums, countless ARIA and AIR Award wins, a J Award and Hottest 100 win and the longest charting Australian artist single in ARIA Top 100 history, with Vance Joy’s smash hit ‘Riptide’.

Forthcoming new album releases include offerings from British India and Slum Sociable, plus new singles from Julia Jacklin and Mansionair.  2018 already promises albums from Mansionair and Vance Joy.

Damian Slevison, MD of Liberation Records said: “It’s an exciting new phase for the label and an honour to move into this next chapter with such an inspiring collection of diverse artists. With Michael and Warren’s support many of our artists have achieved wonderful success on Liberation, and we’re proud to honour the strength of their past Liberation links as we move forward to this exciting new stage. Our label team couldn’t be more focused on this opportunity to re-vitalise our branding and further enhance our development of new Australian music talent.”

The complete roster for the newly created Liberation Records is as follows:

Adalita Emma Louise Julia Jacklin The Creases
British India Gordi Mansionair The Temper Trap
Dan Sultan Husky R.W. Grace Two People
D.D Dumbo James Crooks Slum Sociable Vance Joy

C.O.O. of Mushroom Labels & Publishing, Chris Maund has overseen the changes as the Mushroom Group re-focuses its Record Label and Music Publishing activities: “By any measure, Damo is one of the best A&R people in the country. His record of signing both credible and successful artist speaks for itself.  Liberation Records creates a home and identity for those like-minded artists and the many more to come, to flourish under Damo’s leadership and backed by the strength of the Mushroom Labels’ team.”

Michael Gudinski, Chairman of the Mushroom Group said: “The Liberation name has been in and around Mushroom for a very long time and has under-pinned the successful careers of many musicians and performers. Equally, Liberation has always enjoyed a great reputation globally, and I couldn’t be happier that Damian Slevison will continue to grow and develop it for many years to come.”

Alongside the re-brand of Liberation, comes the news of a fresh Mushroom entity, Bloodlines.  More than just a label, Bloodlines will be home to some of the most iconic names in the Australian music industry, providing a full range of creative services outside of the standard label format.

Michael Gudinski, Chairman of the Mushroom Group said: “Warren Costello and I chose the name ‘Bloodlines’ because it reflects ‘family’ and ‘pedigree’ and honours the past but, equally importantly, looks to the future. “

Bloodlines will officially launch in late 2017 – more information coming soon.

The Mushroom Group remains Australasia’s leading entertainment group and through its collective of labels, is the domestic leader in the development and nurturing of local music talent.  In addition to Liberation Records and Bloodlines, Mushroom Labels include domestic label mates Ivy League Records, I OH YOU, Soothsayer, 100s + 1000s, and international label Liberator. | | Twitter @liberationrecs
